Box Score

Demorest, GA --
Despite a dramatic ninth inning, the Piedmont College baseball team posted its third consecutive loss this evening while playing host to Hampden-Sydney College.  The visiting Tigers never trailed as they carried an early lead throughout the game en route to a 6-4 victory.

After Hampden-Sydney raced out to a 2-0 advantage in the top of the first inning, PC would quickly cut the margin to one run in the home half on a RBI double from Kevin McConnell.  Despite a slow start, freshman Kevin Caldwell would settle in on the mound retiring 9 of the next 10 batters he faced while recording five strikeouts.

Hampden-Sydney then added on two more runs in the top of the sixth including a solo shot to push the margin back up to three.  In the same inning, PC again chopped the Tigers' lead to just one on a two run triple from Daniel Rivera,

The Tigers posted two insurance runs in the seventh to once more take a three run lead.  Piedmont would then load the bases in the bottom of the ninth only to see one run cross the plate making the final score 6-4 in favor of Hampden-Sydney.

The Lions will return to action on Wednesday, March 10th as they host the Bulldogs of Adrian College with game time slated to start at 3:00.
