Box Score

Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College baseball team fell in its Great South Athletic Conference opener this evening to visiting Huntingdon College 5-4.  The Lions rallied in the ninth inning to draw within one run of the visitors, but a game-ending double play kept PC from winning its first conference game of the season.

The Hawks got on the board early in the game tallying a run in the top of the second before adding four more scores in the sixth inning to carry a 5-0 lead until the final frame.

Piedmont finally got on the board in the bottom of the ninth when the Lions would tack on four runs to pull within one of the visiting Hawks.  The rally would fall just short as Huntingdon held on for the 5-4 victory to deny PC of the win.

Spencer Shelton took the loss for the Lions as he allowed all five runs to the Hawks moving his season record to 2-4.  Shortstop Scott Haddock contributed to PC's ninth inning rally by earning a RBI single driving in teammate Tate Koons

With the loss, Piedmont moves to 10-12 overall while falling to 0-1 in GSAC play.  The Lions will look to rebound quickly when they again host Huntingdon College for the second of a three-game set on Saturday, March 27 with game time slated for 3:00.
