Demorest, GA -- In the second of the two-game season series with visiting Guilford College the Piedmont College baseball team picked up its first victory of the season this afternoon at Loudermilk Field by the score of 6-2. The Lions never trailed and blasted a pair of home runs en route to the win.
After a three-up, three-down top of the first the Lions struck with four runs on two hit capped by a two-run blast off the bat of
KEVIN MCCONNELL over the left field fence. The home team would add to the lead as senior
ZACH KUNZ blasted a solo homer out to left center to lead off the third.
After Piedmont added another run in the fifth off a
JOHN DUKE two-out RBI-single the Quakers would try to answer in the eighth with a pair but could not overcome the deficit and dropped the four-run decision.
The Lions featured six pitchers who combined to carry a no-hitter six and two-thirds of the game and allowed only four hits while striking out 11.
DUSTY BLACK picked up his first victory of the season throwing a pair of scoreless innings facing the minimum in the pre-determined rotation.
The win moves PC to an even 1-1 overall. The squad will return to action again on Saturday, February 13th as they host Mississippi College at Loudermilk Field starting at 1:00.
