Demorest, GA -- In the first game of the 2010 Piedmont College Baseball season the Lions were ousted by visiting Guilford College this afternoon at Loudermilk Field by the score of 5-2. The home standing squad could only muster five hits while striking out 10 times and leaving as many runners on base.
The Quakers struck with the first run of the game in the top of the third with a walk and a pair of two-out singles. In the home half the Lions quickly responded as
JOHN DUKE plated newcomer Scott Haddock with a two-out single to right field.
The visitors would add a single run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a three-run advantage. In the bottom of the inning the Lions threatened loading the bases with no outs but could only plate one run off a Danny Rivera two-out infield single.
The Quakers would tack on an insurance run in the seventh and hold the Lions hit-less in the final three innings for the victory.
CALEB COCHRAN came out of the bullpen for the Lions striking out three and allowing only one earned run in three and two-thirds innings of work.
Duke paced the offense going 2-3 with a pair of walks and an RBI. These two teams will wrap up the season series tomorrow, February 8th at Loudermilk Field starting at 3:00.
