Demorest, GA -- For the third consecutive game the Piedmont College baseball team walked away empty handed, this afternoon against in-state rival Oglethorpe University by the score of 6-2. The Stormy Petrels pounded out six runs on nine hits in the first three innings en route to the victory.
Oglethorpe opened the game with two runs on four hits in the top of the first to take the only lead of the contest. After striking out the side the Stormy Petrels added a single run in the second and three runs in the third to take full command.
The Lions tried to answer in the seventh as
Ethan Miers connected on an RBI-double in the gap. The home team added a single run in the bottom of the ninth but could get no closer and dropped the four-run decision.
Out of the bullpen newcomer
Brannon Humphries went four and two-thirds of scoreless relief while striking out six.
Kyle Davis paced the offense with two hits including a double.
The loss slides Piedmont to 1-4 on the season. The team will hit the road on Friday, February 19th to take on Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA starting at 3:00.
