Demorest, GA --
The Piedmont College men's soccer team moved past the semifinal round of the Great South Athletic Conference Championship Tournament for the third consecutive season earlier this afternoon at the Walker Athletic Complex. The team did just so by virtue of a 5-1 victory over the Panthers of LaGrange College to open their conference tournament action.

For the second time in four days, the men's soccer team earned a win at home over LaGrange with today's win coming by a slightly more comfortable margin. Mason Flynn kicked off the scoring with two goals inside of the first ten minutes of play with his second proving to be the eventual game-winner.

Sophomore Sidney Smith then added to the Lions' lead with his seventh goal of the year coming in the 30th minute. Just four minutes later, Smith earned an assist as Chase Rivers would put Piedmont up 4-0 with his fifth goal of 2010.

Just before the break, LaGrange cut Piedmont's lead to three goals only to see Justin Whitaker score a second half goal that gave the Lions a 5-1 decision in the GSAC semifinal contest.

The win moves the Lions to 11-7 overall and keeps the team alive in the GSAC Championships. Piedmont will now face the #1 seeded Scots of Maryville College in the tournament final at 2:00 on Saturday, November 6.
