Box Score

Demorest, GA --
The Piedmont College men's soccer team used an extra frame to claim a 1-0 victory over the visiting Panthers of LaGrange College earlier this evening at the Walker Athletic Complex.  Piedmont outshot their Great South Athletic Conference foe eight to five overall in the match but it was the final shot of the game that proved to be the gamewinner for the home team.

In this GSAC matchup, the two teams battled each other for a full 90 minutes with both teams creating scoring chances in the first and second half.  With the score still tied at 0 at the end of regulation play, the two squads would go to overtime to decide a winner.

Seven minutes into the first overtime period, the Lions found the golden goal as junior Nick Weatherby curled a corner kick onto the attacking head of freshman Justin Whitaker.  The youngster redirected the set piece service into the back of the LaGrange net just outside of the reach of the Panthers' keeper.

The win moves PC to 10-7 on the year and 2-1 in GSAC play.  The victory also secures the second seed for the Lions in the GSAC championship tournament and sets up a rematch with LaGrange College in the semifinal round on Friday, November 5.  Kickoff is set for 1:45 at the Walker Athletic Complex.
