Montgomery, AL --
The Piedmont College volleyball team split a pair of Great South Athletic Conference matches on the final day of conference competition at Huntingdon College. After first defeating Spelman College in straight sets 3-0, the Lady Lions fell in a tightly-contested five setter to Huntingdon 3-2 to close out the day.

Against Spelman, PC had little trouble disposing of the Jaguars in three sets 25-13, 25-18, and 25-19. Earning their 15th win of the year, the Lions used seven block assists to thwart the Spelman attack.

Junior Rachel Powell earned eight kills on the match while Heather Stafford and Erin Krause each posted ten kills a piece. Paige Eslinger led the way defensively with 19 digs as Katheryn Knarr dished out 25 set assists.

After dispatching of the Jaguars, the Lady Lions turned their attention to the host Huntingdon College fighting their way to a five-set classic that saw conference-leading Huntingdon come out on top 3-2. After the Lady Hawks would open things up with a 25-20 win in the first set, Piedmont rallied to take sets two and three by 25-11 and 25-14 scores.

In set number four, it was the Lady Hawks who would this time rally to take the fourth set 25-18 pushing the match to a fifth and decisive set. After falling behind 6-0, the Lady Lions clawed their way back into the action tying things up at 12 a piece before allowing the three final points to swing Huntingdon's way.

In the 3-2 loss to HC, Krause led all hitters with 11 kills while Kalin DeMarrais earned ten of her own to go along with nine digs on the defensive end. Sophomore libero Paige Eslinger once again had a solid performance with 25 digs to push her daily total over 40.

The split moves PC to 15-12 on the season while Piedmont finishes 5-2 in conference play. The Lady Lions will look to snare their 16th win of the season when they play host to in-state rival Oglethorpe University for a 7:00 match on Wednesday, October 27. The match will also serve as Senior Night as the program will recognize the graduating class of 2011.
