Demorest, GA --
The Piedmont College volleyball team swept two matches earlier this afternoon on their home court to push their season win total to ten.  The Lady Lions first took care of Great South Athletic Conference member Agnes Scott College 3-0 before claiming a 3-2 victory in a five-set thriller with Covenant College later in the day.

In the first match of the day for PC, the Scotties of Agnes Scott were unable to take more than 16 points in a set from the host team. Piedmont defeated ASC in straight sets 25-15, 25-16, and 25-12 to start the day 1-0.

Senior Kalin DeMarrais led the way for PC on the attack with a dozen kills to go along with seven digs in the match.  Classmate Heather Stafford added eight more kills while sophomore Hallye Jerkins put down seven of her own the effort.

Stafford and Jerkins also posted season high hitting percentages with a .667 and .583 percentage respectively.  Freshman setter Katheryn Knarr guided the offense collecting 25 set assists while fellow freshman Ashton Nash added eleven more.

Against Covenant, Piedmont kept things exciting after taking the first two sets 25-17 and 29-27.  The Scots battled back to take sets three and four before Piedmont steadied to claim the fifth and decisive set 15-8 for the 3-2 decision.

Stafford again posted big numbers at the net with 16 kills on 32 attempts adding three set assists to the sheet.  It was her classmate DeMarrais who led the squad with 18 kills as well as 19 digs to give the outside hitter her 1,000th career dig.

Junior Rachel Powell added nine key kills down the stretch while the freshmen setting tandem of Nash and Knarr combined for 57 set assists in the win.  Sophomore PAIGE ESLINGER tabbed 37 digs on the day to continue leading the Piedmont defense.

The victories put the Lady Lions to 10-8 on the season while the squad improves to 2-1 in conference play.  Piedmont will get back on the court a week from today when the team again hosts a Saturday tri-match with Centre College and Peace College coming to the Cave.  The October 9 series will kick off with Piedmont taking on Centre at noon.
