Lady Lions Split Opening Day Of Millsaps Invitational

Nikki Cole paced the Lady Lions' offense notching 30 total kills in the first day of the Millsaps College Invitational.

Jackson, MS - The Piedmont College volleyball team traveled to the Millsaps College Invitational this evening and split a pair of matches taking the first but falling in the nightcap. In the opener the Lady Lions defeated tournament host Millsaps 3-1 but dropped the finale 3-0 to fellow SCAC member Rhodes College.

PC (2-1) will return to the hardwood tomorrow, September 5th as they take on Loyola (LA) University at 11:00 and Belhaven College at 3:00.

After taking the first set 25-22 in the opener the home team rallied to take the second 31-29. The Lady Lions quickly regained control of the match holding their opponents to 19 and 12 points in the final two sets respectively.

Senior Nikki Cole led the way on both sides of the net posting a team best 15 kills while adding a career high 27 digs. Kalin DeMarrais also reached double figures with 13 kills while Tyler Baldonado notched 45 assists.

In the final match of the day Rhodes stymied the Lady Lions taking the straight-set decision 25-15, 25-22 and 25-21. Cole again posted 15 kills while libero Jennifer Granlund kept Piedmont in the match with her 25 digs.
