Volleyball Overtakes LaGrange, Gets Edged By Birmingham Southern

LaGrange, GA -- The Piedmont College volleyball team traveled to fellow Great South Athletic Conference host LaGrange College this afternoon for a pair of non-conference matches with the home team and Birmingham Southern College. The women prevailed in straight sets over the Panthers but were edged in the finale 3-2.

The women now stand at 11-5 overall and will return to action on Saturday, October 3rd as they host Great South members Maryville College and Wesleyan College at Cave Arena with match times slated for 12:00 and 4:00 respectively. Only the match with WC will count towards the conference standings.

Against LC the Lady Lions defense was up to the task winning the three sets 25-17, 25-13 and 25-15. Katie Tucker and Michelle Tesina notched eight kills apiece while Jennifer Granlund led the team with eight digs. 

After dropping the first set in the second match PC rallied to take the next two 25-20 and 25-18. The Panthers answered to take the fourth frame 25-21 and the fifth and deciding set 15-11. The loss marks the first in three five-set matches this season for the Lady Lions.

Heather Stafford led the offense with 12 kills, half of which came in the third game. Nikki Cole also posted double figures with 11 kills while Tyler Baldonado tallied 43 assists.
