Volleyball Sweeps First Day Of Greensboro Invitational

In search of its third consecutive championship the Piedmont College volleyball team swept a pair of matches this afternoon in the Greensboro College Invitational. In the opener the Lady Lions handed Randolph-Macon College its first loss of the season 3-2 and then defeated tournament host Greensboro 3-1.

PC now stands at 5-3 overall and will take on Guilford College and Salem College tomorrow, September 12th with match times scheduled for 10:00 and 2:00 respectively.

In the first match RMC took command in the opening sets 25-21 and 25-21. The Lady Lions then rallied to take the next two 25-16 and 25-21 forcing the fifth and deciding set. In a back and forth final frame PC outlasted the Yellow Jackets 15-11 to take the match.

Nikki Cole  led three players in double figures with 13 kills. Heather Stafford added 11 kills while Michelle Tesina added 10 kills with only one error. Setter Tyler Baldonado posted a match high 45 assists while Jennifer Granlund added 32 digs.

In the finale the Lady Lions featured a balanced scoring attack that saw four players notch at least five kills. After taking the first set 25-12 the Pride answered with a 25-17 win in the second. PC held off the home team 25-23 in the third and 25-17 in the final set.
