In the third and deciding game of the teams' three-game series, the Eagles of Emory University defeated the Piedmont College baseball team 13-5 this afternoon in Atlanta, GA. The loss sealed the season series for EU who scored in five of its eight opportunities en route to victory.
The Lions, now 15-14 overall, will return to action on Tuesday, April 7th as they travel to Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, AL with first pitch scheduled for 5:00 CST.
After the Eagles scored two runs in the first inning Piedmont answered right back with five runs on five hits to take the lead. After a one out walk JARED MOON blasted an RBI-double in the gap. Two hitters later Zach Kunz posted a double to right scoring Zac Stein and later scored on a John Duke single to cap the scoring.
The lead would be short lived as the Eagles answered with two runs in the home half and took the final lead of the game with five in the third. Emory added two insurance runs in the fifth and eighth respectively and help the Lions scoreless for their final seven innings.
Kunz and Stein led the offense going 2-4 each while Duke went 1-4 with a run batted in. The Lions were outhit 17-8 and stranded six runners on base while committing three errors.
