The Piedmont College baseball team traveled to in-state rival Emory University this afternoon in Atlanta, GA and fell to the Eagles by the score of 4-3. The Lions could only muster eight hits and stranded six runners en route to the narrow defeat.
After a scoreless first inning the home team pounded out three runs on four hits in the second to take the only lead of the game. Piedmont answered with a single run in the third as catcher
ZAC STEIN belted a homerun to centerfield.
The Lions would cut the deficit to one in the next inning as
JOHN DUKE notched a two-out triple and scored on a
JUSTIN VORHERR RBI-single. The Eagles would increase the advantage with a single run in the fifth making the score 4-2.
PC got back within one as Duke added his third hit of the day plating
ANDREW MIGETZ. The visitors would be retired quietly in the ninth and drop the one-run decision.
Duke led the offense going 3-4 with a walk while Stein and
COREY LINDSEY added a pair of hits respectively. Relievers
CALEB COCHRAN and
DUSTY BLACK posted two innings of scoreless relief with three combined strikeouts.
The Lions, now 14-12 overall, will take on EU again tomorrow, April 4th at Loudermilk Field with first pitch scheduled for 3:00.
