Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College baseball team dropped its second straight game this evening at Loudermilk Field to visiting Birmingham Southern College by the score of 6-4. The win gives the Panthers the season sweep in the non-conference matchup.
In the bottom of the first inning the Lions jumped out with a single run on one hit a walk and four stolen bases. BSC answered with three runs in the third including four consecutive singles. In the home half freshman
Ethan Miers scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of
John Duke.
The visitors tacked on a single run in the fifth and two in the six to extend the margin to four runs. In the bottom of the seventh
Brandon Hitch posted an RBI-walk followed by an
Andrew Migetz sacrifice fly. The squad went hitless for the final six outs and dropped the two-run decision.
Corey Lindsey went 2-4 with a walk, two runs scored and as many stolen bases while Miers chipped in going 1-3 with a walk and the other two runs. The Panthers outhit the Lions 11-6 and capitalized on six base on balls.
Piedmont now stands at 19-18 overall and will return to the field on Friday, April 24th at the Great South Athletic Conference Tournament in Montgomery, AL with game time and opponent to be determined.
