Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College baseball team posted a doubleheader split this afternoon with visiting Great South Athletic Conference member LaGrange College at Loudermilk Field winning the opener 15-8 but falling in the finale 11-4. The Lions finish the Great South regular season with an overall record of 5-4.
After scoring a single run in the first inning of the day the Lions exploded for seven runs on four hits in the second highlighted by a
Jared Moon two-RBI single with two outs.
The Panthers answered with six runs in the fourth to cut into the lead, but the Lions tacked on five runs down the stretch to seal the win and clinch the series.
In the nightcap the Lions defense faltered committing a season high seven errors that led to nine unearned runs. Piedmont scored in only three innings while the visitors posted runs in six of their nine innings on offense.
Senior
Spenser Ventrice led the Lions going 4-6 with three walks and a hit by pitch and three runs batted in.
Zac Stein went 4-7 with a pair of walks while senior
Andrew Migetz collected three hits including a pair of doubles.
The split moves Piedmont to 19-17 overall. The Lions will take on Birmingham Southern College on Tuesday, April 21st at Loudermilk Field beginning at 5:00.
