Maryville, TN -- In the final match of the 2009 season the Piedmont College volleyball team fell to top-seeded and tournament host Maryville College this afternoon by the score of 3-1. Of the three lost sets the Lady Lions lost a pair by the score of 25-23 en route to the runner-up GSAC Championship finish.

The Scots took control of the first set and cruised to the 25-13 point. The Lady Lions dropped the second 25-23 but rallied in the third taking the dramatic sett 32-30. In the fourth and final frame MC held off the visitors 25-23 to claim the title and automatic bid into the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Michelle Tesina led the Lady Lion attack with 16 kills. Setter Tyler Baldonado posted 17 assists to six different players. PC's defense was outstanding as Kalin DeMarrais led four players in double figures with 16 digs.

Piedmont finished with only 27 errors but could only convert six percent of its attacks into kills. The Lady Lions finish the season with an overall record of 24-9, one-third of the team's losses coming at the hands of Maryville.
