Netters Blank Huntingdon To Earn Spot In GSAC Championship Match

In the GSAC Tournament semifinals Heather Stafford led the Lady Lions with eight kills in the 3-0 victory over Huntingdon College.

The secon-seeded Piedmont College volleyball team defeated #3 Huntingdon College this afternoon by the score of 3-0 to advance to the Great South Athletic Conference Tournament championship match. The Lady Lions will take on top-seeded Maryville College for a shot at an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

The women powered past the Lady Hawks in the first set 25-16 and edged the opposition 25-21 in the second. In the third and final frame the women took control late and held off Huntingdon 25-18. The victory is the fourth victory of the season over HC as the Lady Lions improve to 24-8 overall.

Heather Stafford paced the well-balanced offense with eight kills while Michelle Tesina and Nikki Cole added seven kills apiece. Tyler Baldonado posted a match-best 12 assists while Jennifer Granlund and Kalin DeMarrais added 15 digs respectively.

In the other semifinal match tournament host and top-seeded Maryville defeated #4 Salem College 3-0.

The final match will take place tomorrow, November 7th beginning at 1:00.
