Netters Split Home Doubleheader To Earn Second GSAC Win

In a pair of matches the Piedmont College volleyball team posted a split this afternoon at Cave Arena falling to Great South Athletic Conference member Maryville College 3-0 in a non-counter but rebounding to defeat Wesleyan College in straight sets. The victory against WC improved the Lady Lions to 2-0 in the GSAC.

Maryville, the defending GSAC champions, handed the squad it's second straight set loss of the season 25-16, 25-13 and 25-22. Kalin DeMarrais paced the offensive attack with nine kills while Nikki Cole chipped in seven. Defensively libero Jennifer Granlund notched a match-high 10 digs, one-third of the teams total.

In the finale the Lady Lions rolled past Wesleyan 25-2, 25-2, and 25-3. Newcomer Michelle Tesina led the onslaught with a match-best 10 kills while Hallye Jerkins added a career-high eight. The women connected on 68% of their attacks and committed only three errors.

PC, now 12-6 overall and 2-0 in the GSAC, will return to the hardwood again on Tuesday, October 6th as they travel to Spelman College in Atlanta, GA for a non-conference match beginning at 6:30.
