Netters Take Two Of Three Against Division II Competition

Tyler Baldonado broke the PC volleyball record for career assists against Converse College this afternoon at the Erskine College Invitational in Due West, SC.

The Piedmont College volleyball team traveled to the Erskine College Invitational this afternoon and took two of the three matches against the entirely NCAA Division-II field. The women defeated Converese College and tournament host Erskine but fell in the event's finale to North Greenville University.

Against Converse, the women dropped the first set 29-31 but rebounded to take the final three 25-15, 25-13, 25-17. Senior Nikki Cole posted 11 kills while teammate Katie Tucker chipped in with 10. Setter Tyler Baldonado earned 40 assists and shattered the previous PC record for career assists.

In the second match Erskine took the first set 25-22. The Lady Lions rallied to take the next two 25-15 and 26-24 but saw the home team force a fifth set 25-17. Piedmont was up to the task and took the final set 15-11 for the hard-fought victory.

In the third consecutive match of the day the Lady Lions and the Crusaders split the first four sets forcing a pivotal fifth. NGU used a late rally to take the victory 15-10. Libero Jennifer Granlund kept PC in the match with 18 digs while Michelle Tesina posted seven kills.

The women now stand at 19-8 overall. The team will return to the court again on Wednesday, October 28th as they host Great South Athletic Conference member Spelman College at Cave Arena starting at 6:30.
