The Piedmont College baseball team dropped the first game of the 2007 Great South Athletic Conference Tournament to host Maryville College this evening by the score of 7-5. The Lions held a 5-3 lead into the eighth but the Scots connected on a pair of homeruns plating four runs and sealing the victory.
PC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Maryville answered with an unearned run in the third and then single runs in both the fifth and sixth innings giving them a slim 3-2 led. The Lions responded with three runs in the sixth but allowed four unanswered runs which proved to be the game-winners in the eighth.
Leading the offense for Piedmont was Travis Hunt, Cole Spedale, and Evan Nissley who notched a pair of hits respectively. Luke Dombrowsky chipped in going 1-4 with a pair of RBI's while Zac Stein added a 1-2 night with an RBI.
The loss drops PC to 19-22 overall. The Lions will return to action again tomorrow, April 28th as they take on LaGrange College at 12:00 in the tournament's first elimination game.
