It was a tough afternoon for the Piedmont College baseball team as the squad dropped both games of a Great South Athletic Conference doubleheader with Huntingdon College this afternoon in Montgomery, AL by the scores of 7-3 and 6-5. On the afternoon the Lions could only muster eight runs, only four of which were earned and dropped the doubleheader.
In the first game the Hawks used a four-run third inning which proved to be the eventual game-winners. The Lions tried to mount a comeback in the ninth but could only score two runs and dropped the four-run decision. Travis Hunt led the offense going 3-5 with an RBI while Justin Vorherr added a perfect 2-2 with an RBI.
In the second game the Lions found themselves down 5-1 in the top of the seventh. PC plated a single run in the seventh then two more in the eighth to get within one. In the top of the ninth the Lions capitilized on a Huntingdon error to tie the game but a one-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth left PC on the field for the fourth time this season. Luke Dombrowsky led the offense going a perfect 4-4 with three RBI's while Andy House went 2-5 with an RBI.
The losses drop PC to 10-19 overall and 1-2 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Lions will return home briefly on Tuesday, April 3rd as they host local rival Oglethorpe University at Loudermilk Field beginning at 7:00.
