Baseball Team Wins Third Straight

The Piedmont College baseball team scored in six of its eight innings of offense and rolled to an 11-3 victory over visiting non-conference opponent Hampden-Sydney College tonight at Loudermilk Field. In front of a capacity crowd the baseball team pounded out 14 hits and never trailed in route to the eight-run victory.

PC struck first with a single run in the bottom of the first which was quickly answered by the Tigers in the top of the second. The Lions notched three runs in the home half of the second, a lead they never relenquished. The Lions added single runs in the third and fourth and then opened the game up with four runs in the fifth and one in the eighth.

On the mound Spencer Shelton recorded his second win of the season going six and two-thirds innings striking out seven hitters while scattering six hits and allowing only one earned run. Tom Dimitroff sealed the victory from there going two and a third innings without allowing a hit.

The Lions offense was led by Andy House who went 4-5 with two doubles and four runs batted in. Freshman Zac Stein went 3-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored while Travis Hunt and Cole Spedale added a pair of hits and scored four times collectively.

The victory moves Piedmont to 7-10 overall. The Lions will play host to Franklin & Marshall College on Wednesday, March 14th at Loudermilk Field with first pitch scheduled for 7:00.
