On the heels of a dramatic win the night before, the Piedmont College baseball team was able to split a doubleheader with visiting USA-South Conference member Ferrum College this afternoon at Loudermilk Field. In game one the Panthers overcame PC by the score of 12-8 but the Lions rebounded in game two with a seven-run eighth inning leading to the 13-6 victory.
In game one Ferrum notched single runs in the second and third inning. Piedmont took the lead briefly in the fifth inning with four runs but the Panthers responded in the sixth inning with seven runs. Ferrum went on to score three more runs and held on to the 12-8 victory.
In game two the Lions held a 6-4 lead into the eight inning when the Panthers answered with a pair of runs knotting the game at 6-6. In the bottom of the eighth PC exploded for seven unanswered runs and sealed the 13-6 victory.
Cole Spedale led the Lions offense going 3-7 with three runs scored. In game two Tyson Baxter and Zac Stein recorded their first career hits for Piedmont, with each adding RBI's. Spencer Shelton picked up his first career victory on the mound going four and a third innings in relief allowing only two earned runs.
The split moves Piedmont to 2-5 overall. The Lions will return to action again on Saturday, February 24th as they host Millsaps College starting at 1:00.
