After rallying from a 3-0 halftime deficit, the Piedmont College men's soccer team fell a goal short in the second half falling to visiting non-conference opponent Methodist College this afternoon at Walker Field by the score of 3-2. PC scored a pair of goals in the second half just nine minutes apart but MC was able to hold on down the stretch for the victory.
The loss drops Piedmont to an even 5-5 on the year and moves regionally-ranked Methodist up to 7-1 overall. The Lions will return to action again on Thursday, September 28th as they travel to non-conference opponent Southern Wesleyan University in Central, SC starting at 7:00.
The Monarchs struck early with a goal at the 12th minute. PC then allowed a pair of unassisted goals at the 34th and 39th minute to enter intermission down three goals. In the second half Drew Griffin struck the Lions first goal on an assist from Jorge Pradilla at the 51st minute followed by George Sandi who scored at the 60th minute unassisted.
Patrick Ratigan was impressive in goal in the second half saving three shots and keeping the Lions within one goal down the stretch. The match was an intensely physical one as there were 28 fouls and five yellow cards administered between the two teams.
