Behind a high-powered offense, the Piedmont College men's soccer team defeated visiting Great South Athletic Conference member LaGrange College tonight by the score of 9-0 at Walker Field. In front of a capacity crowd, men kept the ball on the offensive side of midfield for the majority of the game and outshot their opponents 22-5.
The Lions struck early and often as Drew Griffin notched the first and eventual game-winning goal on an assist from George Sandi at the 6th minute. Jorge Pradillo tallied the next two goals on assists from Rob Nix and Josh Seabrook at the 12th and 14th minute. Seabrook, Pradillo and Griffin notched three more goals before intermission.
One minute into the second half Griffin struck the hat trick goal, matching Pradillo in the first half, and then scored a fourth at the 74th minute. Josh Mitchem recorded his first-collegiate goal at the 79th minute on an assist from Alan Creasy.
Between the posts Patrick Ratigan notched his first shutout of the season saving four shots.
The victory moves PC to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The men will return to the field again on Thursday, September 21st as they travel to non-conference Toccoa Falls College with start time set for 7:00 in Toccoa, GA.
