Emory Unviversity, the #1 ranked team in the nation, defeated the visiting Piedmont College baseball team by the score of 10-0 this afternoon in Atlanta, GA. The Lions hit into three double plays and allowed the Eagles to score six insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, sealing the ten-run victory.
The Lions pounded out nine hits and only struck out four times but could not break the ice and put a run on the board. Emory scored all their runs in the fourth and the eighth with four and six runs respectively.
Mike Santowski went 2-3 with a stolen base and Cole Spedale went 2-4. Justin Oates, Travis Hunt, Kyle Stever, Matt Devito and Evan Nissley all tallied one hit apiece. The Lions stole a pair of bases in the game and 12 on the weekend series.
The loss drops PC to 19-13 overall. The Lions will return home to take on visiting NCAA Divison-III South Region opponent University of the South on Tuesday, April 11th at PC's Loudermilk Field with game time scheduled for 3:00.
