The Piedmont College baseball team held off a last inning rally from fourth-seeded Maryville College as the Lions advanced in the winner's bracket of the 2006 Great South Athletic Conference Championship this evening at PC's Walker Field with a 5-3 victory over the Scots. The top-seeded Lions will now take on third-seeded LaGrange at 1:00 on Sunday with the winner advancing to the championship game.
MC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and third innings, but Piedmont responded with three in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good.
Bill Secor earned the victory for Piedmont while Josh Berens earned the save after recording the final out with bases loaded. PC's Travis Hunt was 3-5 from the plate with a run scored and an RBI to lead the Lions' offense.
