In dramatic fashion the Piedmont College baseball team defeated the visiting Eagles of Bridgewater College 4-3 today at Loudermilk Field. With the tying run at third base and the go ahead run at first base in the ninth inning leftfielder Evan Nissley made a diving catch to seal the victory for Piedmont.
Billy Secor pitched eight plus innings allowing only three runs on six hits and notching three strikeouts for his second victory of the season. Josh Berens came in the ninth with one on and no outs and pitched out of the jam to record the save.
In the second inning Matt Hale lead off with a hit by pitch. With the count 1-2, Mike Santowski belted a two-run homer to give the Lions a two run lead. Santowski struck again with sacrifice flies in the fourth and eighth inning. Freshman Brandon Hitch and Daniel Rivera also contributed with their first collegiate hits.
The victory marks the fourth straight for the Lions who move to 6-3 overall. Piedmont will complete the two-game series against Bridgewater tomorrowwith first-pitch scheduled for 2:00.
