In a game that featured four lead changes, the Piedmont College baseball team fell to non-conference host Ferrum College in Ferrum, VA this afternoon by the score of 6-4. PC was able to outhit their opponent 11-8 but could not push across more runs than the hosts.
The Lions scored a single run in each of the first three innings and took a 3-1 lead into the fourth. Ferrum answered that inning with two runs and pushed across single insurance runs in the sixth, seventh andf eighth. Despite a ninth inning rally the Lions fell a pair of runs short and dropped the 6-4 decision.
Travis Hunt led the Lions offense by going 2-4 with three runs scored. Mike Santowski went 2-4 with a pair of RBI's and Trey McCay picked up a pair of hits as well.
Matt Burgess pitched six innings allowing four runs on four hits while striking out seven. The Piedmont bullpen allowed only two runs in the final four innings of play while allowing only four hits.
The loss drops PC to 13-11 overall. The Lions will be in action again on Wednesday, March 29th as they host non-conference DePauw University at Loudermilk Field with game time set for 7:00.
