Piedmont Notches Two-Game Sweep Of Adrian College With 6-1 Victory

Using five different pitchers and not allowing an earned run, the Piedmont College baseball team defeated visiting non-conference opponent Adrian College 6-1 for a two-game sweep this afternoon at Loudermilk Field. The Piedmont offense accounted for 13 hits and notched runs in five different innings en route to victory.

On the mound freshman John Vohlken recorded his first career victory by pitching two scoreless innings in the predetermined rotation. Andy Graf followed with two innings of work in which he allowed one unearned run. Blake Thomas and Andrew Rose threw two innings apiece and Josh Berens threw a perfect ninth to wrap up the victory.

Offensively the Lions scored the two eventual game-winning runs in the bottom of the second. Tim Jones started the second inning with a one-out double followed by a walk from Walker Searcy. Cole Spedale and Travis Hunt followed with RBI singles.

Hunt led the Lions by going 3-3 with two RBI's, two stolen bases, a walk and a sacrifice. Blake Albertson went 2-4, Spedale was 2-5 with an RBI and Mike Santowski went 1-3 with two RBI's. Every starter in the lineup recorded at least one hit and the Lions stole 10 bases in 12 attempts.
