Piedmont Edges Adrian 3-2 In 11 Innings

In a closely contested game the Piedmont College Lions edged the visiting Adrian College 3-2 in extra innings this afternoon at PC's Walker Field. PC could only muster seven hits in 11 innings but came away with the one-run victory. Senior Billy Secor threw nine innings allowing only two runs and recording six strikeouts. Freshman Matt Burgess took the ball in the tenth and tallied his second straight relief victory from the bullpen.

Adrian scored the games first run in the top of the third inning. The Lions responded an inning later as Evan Nissley plated Andy House with a one-out RBI single. PC took the lead in the bottom of the eighth as Justin Oates hit a bases loaded two-out RBI single.

The bulldogs answered in the top of the ninth and propelled the game into extra innings. In the bottom of the 11th with two outs Blake Albertson slapped a single to leftfield. He stole second and after an intentional walk to House scored on the game-winning RBI single from Mike Santowski.

The victory moves PC to 4-3 overall. The two teams will square-off again tomorrow, February 27th with game time posted for 3:00.
