Lions' Season Ends With 93-91 Loss In GSAC Tournament Quarterfinal

The Piedmont College men's basketball team had its 2005-2006 season come to an end tonight with a thrillingn 89-87 loss to LaGrange College in quarterfinal action of the Great South Athletic Conference Tournament at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL. LaGrange scored the game-winning basket with 1.9 seconds remaining in regulation. 

The fourth-seeded Lions trailed by six at the break only to see LaGrange stretch its lead to 11 points just over one minute into the second half. From there Piedmont continued to claw its way back into the game and eventually force a tie at 77 with only 3:11 remaining. 

From that point there were four more lead changes and ties before PC missed a layup with the game tied and just 11 seconds remaining in regulation. 

LaGrange's Demetris Render scored the game-winner with just under two seconds in regulation. 

Piedmont's Jake Baldwin led all scorers with a game-high 27 points while teammate Mike Adams contributed with 20 points. Jake Green and Kyle Kemmerer added 14 and 11 points respectively. 

The loss ends the Lions' season at 13-12 overall. The winning season is only the second for the PC men's basketball program in the last 10 years and marks only the second back-to-back win improvement totals in the last 17 seasons.
