The Piedmont College baseball team was unable to complete a two-game weekend series sweep of visiting Guilford College as the Lions suffered a 13-4 non-conference loss this afternoon at PC's Loudermilk Field. Guilford used a nine-run sixth inning to run away with the victory.
The visiting Quakers scored a pair of runs in the top of the second inning with a run each in the fourth and fifth innings. The Lions avoided the shutout by scoring four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.Â
Offensively, Piedmont's Matt Hale was a perfect 2-2 from the plate with a RBI while fellow freshman Clay Roland was 1-2 from the plate with a double and a pair of RBI's. PC's Ian McClary suffered the loss on the mound for the Lions.Â
The loss moves PC to 1-1 overall with the Lions returning to action tomorrow afternoon with another non-conference contest against Old Dominion Athletic Conference member Washington & Lee University with first pitch set for 3:00.
