Piedmont Baseball Opens 2006 Season With 6-0 Victory

The Piedmont College baseball team opened the 2006 campaign tonight at Loudermilk Field with a 6-0 shutout over visiting Guilford College. The Lions scored six unanswered runs and tallied eight hits en route to victory.

Bill Secor recorded six strikeouts and scattered five hits in the complete game shutout allowing only three runners to reach second base. Second baseman Walker Searcy recorded six assists and first baseman Mike Santowski recorded 13 putouts including a pair of web gems.

In the bottom of the first inning, Cole Spedale stole home with two outs to give the Lions an early lead. In the second Justin Oates and Spedale recorded RBI singles to stretch the PC lead to 3-0. The Lions scored in the third on a two-out triple and RBI for Searcy and again in the fourth on a Santowski RBI single. PC added an insurance run in the seventh as Santowski scored on a wild pitch.

The victory moves PC to 1-0 overall. These two teams will square off again on Sunday, February 12th at 1:00.
