PC Drops Four Matches In Emory Volleyball Classic

The PC volleyball team dropped four matches in the 2005 Emory Volleyball Classic to finish 6th overall. On Friday in pool play the Lady Lions fell to Maryville College 3-2 and then Allegheny College 3-0. Today in the consolation rounds Piedmont fell to Huntingdon College 3-0 and then to Maryville 3-0.

Jacque DeMarrais led the Lady Lions by averaging 10.25 kills per game and a weekend team-high of 18 kills in the opening match.

Ashley Landers added an average of nine kills per game and reached double figure kills for a team-high seventh time this season.

Host school Emory University, currently ranked fourth in the latest AVCA poll, went on to win the tournament by defeating Southwestern University (Texas) in the championship game in straight sets. Emory did not drop a single set on the weekend of competition.

Piedmont currently stands at 6-7 overall and 3-2 in the Great South and will return to action again on September 23rd and 24th as they host a GSAC weekend of competition featuring five conference teams. The Lady Lions open Friday at 6:00 against Agnes Scott College.
