The Piedmont College volleyball team finished runner-up in the 2005 Great South Athletic Conference tournament this afternoon at Agnes Scott College. The Lady Lions defeated Fisk University and Huntingdon College en route to earning a spot in the championship game.
In the opening round, PC defeated Fisk 30-12, 30-14, and 30-25 behind Ashley Landers' team-high 13 kills. In the semi-finals, the second-seeded Lady Lions defeated third-seeded Huntingdon 32-30, 30-26, and 31-29 as Landers posted 18 kills and teammate B.J. Ostrzycki posted a team-best 44 assists. In the championship game, Piedmont fell to Maryville College 30-22, 21-30, 26-30, and 26-30 despite Lander and Jacque DeMarrais combining for 27 kills.
For their efforts DeMarrais, Sarah Lane, Ostrzycki, and Landers were named to the GSAC All-Conference team. Meghann Clark was named to the All-Freshman team while PC's Haylee Davis, Jill Sparger, Landers, DeMarrais, and Lane earch earned spots in the league's All-Academic team.
Additionally, Piedmont head coach Katie O'Brien was voted the league's co-Coach of the Year with Huntingdon College's Terina Gantt.Â
The Lady Lions end their season with a 20-17 overall record.
