2011 Piedmont College Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee
Jimmy Stephens enters his 21st season as Head Men’s Soccer Coach at Piedmont University in the fall of 2025, continuing to lead the program he helped establish as a player in its inaugural season in 1992. A 2011 inductee into the Piedmont College Athletic Hall of Fame, Stephens is one of the longest-tenured coaches on staff.
In 2024, Stephens guided the Lions to a 7-9-2 record with four All-Conference selections and three CSC Academic All-District honorees. Under his leadership, Piedmont has produced 56 All-Conference players, 20 Academic All-District selections, and two Academic All-Americans.
Stephens led Piedmont to the 2006 GSAC Tournament Championship and has taken the Lions to five conference tournament finals. He has coached four GSAC Players of the Year, one CCS Rookie of the Year (Davis Knight – 2023), and multiple NCAA Division III statistical champions in both goals per game and points per game.
From 2006 to 2008, Piedmont became the only NCAA Division III men’s program to produce three consecutive national statistical champions in goals per game — Drew Griffin (2006, 2007) and Jorge Pradilla (2008). Both also led the nation in points per game during that stretch.
A two-time GSAC Coach of the Year (2006, 2007), Stephens has also guided his teams to nine NSCAA/United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Awards for maintaining a 3.0+ team GPA.
Before returning to his alma mater, Stephens served as head coach for both the men’s and women’s soccer programs at Emmanuel College (2000–2004). He led the men’s team to its first winning season.
A 1995 graduate of Piedmont College, Stephens earned his undergraduate degree in history with a minor in secondary education and physical education. Stephens is a member of the Piedmont College Athletic Hall of Fame as part of the 21st induction class in 2011 and is one of three men’s soccer inductees.
Stephens holds a “B” License from the United States Soccer Federation and is also an active member of the United Soccer Coaches.
