Liz Butikofer enters her 32nd year overall with Piedmont and her 21st season with the Department of Athletics in the fall of 2025. After first arriving to Piedmont in 1994, Butikofer spent her first decade with the school operating in the Office of Student Affairs before moving into the Department of Athletics in 2005 serving in a multitude of roles over more than a decade in the Mize Center.

Starting out as the Assistant to the Athletic Director, the now-veteran of the Department of Athletics then took on the added responsibility of Senior Woman Administrator in the fall of 2008. Butikofer held the SWA role until 2015 when she took on her current responsibility as the Director of Daily Operations for the Department of Athletics.

As the Assistant to the Athletic Director, Butikofer directly handled the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of department student personnel. Directly responsible for the operation of the graduate assistant and student worker budget, Butikofer also assisted in the handling of the departmental budget while maintaining all student-athlete records for national reports and compliance purposes.

In addition to her duties as the Assistant to the Athletic Director, Butikofer also operated in the capacity as Senior Woman Administrator from 2008 to 2015 as the highest ranking female administrator involved with the management of the athletic program. In her role as the SWA, Butikofer worked with athletic administration in the decision-making process at the departmental level and acts as an advocate of female athletics while ensuring the quality of the student-athlete experience.

Butikofer began her career at Piedmont in the Office of Student Affairs back in the fall of 1994. Starting as the Director of Recreational Sports and Wellness, she was quickly named the Director of Campus Life in 1995. From 1995 to 1999, Butikofer also taught classes at Piedmont in recreational sports as well as a course in exercise and physiology. In 2000, she was given the additional title of Director of Residence Life, a role in which she remained before making the move to the Piedmont athletic department as the Assistant to the Athletic Director.

Prior to arriving at Piedmont, Butikofer spent two years at Florida Medical Systems Physical Therapy in Lakeland, Florida as an Athletic Trainer. Hired to develop and implement a sports medicine outreach program with its clinical setting, Butikofer helped organize pre-season orthopedic screenings while also overseeing physician and athletic training coverage of local high school and community events.

Butikofer’s collegiate athletic experience also extends beyond her time at Piedmont as she spent four years as the Head Athletic Trainer at Florida Southern College, a NCAA Division II member school located in Lakeland, Florida. Responsible for eleven different athletic teams, Butikofer managed the daily care and coverage for each sport while also developing injury prevention and rehabilitation programs. In addition to her duties as Head Athletic Trainer, Butikofer also taught several college-level athletic training courses offered at Florida Southern.

Butikofer attained an Associate of Arts degree from Keystone Junior College just one year before earning her Bachelor of Science in Health Science and Health Education from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in 1985.

Butikofer then went on to attain her Master of Science in Health and Physical Education the following year from Austin Peay State University in Clarkesville, TN where she also worked as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer.
