Debra Dooley

Dr. Debra Dooley is entering into her 12th season as the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) in the fall of 2024 at Piedmont University helping to maintain the culture of academia and compliance throughout the Piedmont athletic department.  In her capacity as the FAR at Piedmont, Dr. Dooley operates as the liaison between the college faculty and the athletic department.

A veteran member of the Piedmont University faculty since 1996, Dr. Dooley perfectly fits the mold desired by the National Collegiate Athletic Association as she is broadly knowledgeable about the athletics program and campus-wide academic programs as well as student services.  Holding the title of Professor of Earth Science in the Department of Natural Sciences, Dr. Dooley has been involved locally with the Georgia Naturalist Program as well as with the Northeast Georgia Mineralogical Society.

Acting as a voice of Piedmont, Dr. Dooley offers an opportunity to inform the campus community about the importance of intercollegiate athletics while reviewing the institutional support and responsibilities accorded the FAR position as prescribed by the NCAA in its Faculty Athletic Representative Handbook.  Operating as the Faculty Athletic Representative, she serves as the point of contact between the National Collegiate Athletic Association and Piedmont College in the regular conduct of intercollegiate athletics at Piedmont.

Dr. Dooley is a 1990 graduate of Indiana University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Geology.  She later moved to Athens where she attended the University of Georgia and earned her PhD in Geology.

In her capacity as the Faculty Athletic Representative, Dr. Dooley will be responsible for monitoring Athletics with special concern for academic integrity, institutional control, and student-athlete welfare.
