Taylor Browning enters his second season as an assistant coach with the Piedmont track and field program in the fall of 2019. Browning came to Piedmont after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant for the Division II Augusta University track and field program.
In his role working with the sprints, jumps and hurdles, Browning mentored Julia Graham to become Piedmont's first NCAA qualifier as she finished ninth in the country in the indoor women's 60m hurdles with an 8.87. Browning was named the South/Southeast Region Women's Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as voted on by USTFCCCA member coaches.Â
Browning helped lead both the men's and women's outdoor programs to USA South Championships in 2019 while a total of 31 athletes (14 male, 17 female) earned All-Conference honors based on top-three performances at the championship meet.Â
Nationally, his athletes ranked in the top-25 in the USTFCCCA #EventSquad rankings in the indoor 60m. Regionally, in the 60m, his athletes ranked third. Â
During his time at Augusta, Browning’s primary coaching responsibilities were overseeing the sprints, jumps and hurdles for the Jaguars and coached five NCAA Division II provisional national qualifiers. Browning also coached four All-Region athletes in the jumps category.
Over his two seasons with Augusta, Browning saw 13 school records set under his coaching.
Prior to joining Augusta, Browning competed as a sprinter for the University of the Redlands men’s track and field team where he graduated in 2015.
A four-year letterman for the Bulldogs, Browning was named an All-American as a senior in the 4x100m relay, where he and his three teammates finished runner-up in the Division III championships. Browning was a four-time national qualifier during his collegiate career and has times in the top-10 in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m Relay, 4x400m Relay and DMR for Redlands.
Browning earned seven All-Conference honors and was a three-time conference champion.
Showing his strengths in the classroom, Browning was a three-time Academic All-American and received the Dixon Farmer Character Award for academics, sportsmanship and leadership.
Off the track, Browning is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and is a Level 1 Certified Track and Field Coach under the USATF and the National Committee for Accreditation of Coaching Education.
Browning graduated from Redlands with a degree in biology with a minor in physical education and athletics. He went on to earn his Masters degree in kinesiology from Augusta.
Browning is originally from Carbondale, Colo. and will assist head coach Jamie Jimison in all facets of the Lions track and field program.
