Susan Martin enters her sixth season as Head Women’s Golf Coach in the fall of 2021 after making an immediate impact with Piedmont and helping the Lady Lions to some of the team’s best play in recent history.
Piedmont competed in nine total events over 2020-21 with three coming in the fall and six coming in the spring. The fall season was highlighted by the Lions' win over Georgia Military College at The Orchard Golf & Country Club. Samantha Bearden took home individual medalist honors. The spring season was capped by the Lady Lions competing in their first ever USA South Tournament, held in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Piedmont delivered a fourth-place finish in the event.
With the 2019-20 season cut short due to COVID-19, the Lady Lions competed in just five events posting their best finish in the final event finishing 3rd at the Pfeiffer Invitational. Jordan Abbott posted a top-10 finish in the event earning USA South Golfer of the Week.
Martin's Lady Lions won the 2018 Maryville Fall Invitational with Piedmont taking the top four spots as Jana Guy won the tournament with Kensley Brown, Jordan Abbott and Samantha Bearden earning all-tournament honors. Piedmont also tied the program best team score recording a 310 at the MCC Women's Intercollegiate.
The Lady Lions finished in the top-10 of all but one event during the 2018-19 season. Seniors Jana Guy and Kensley Brown finished their careers with a pair of all-tournament finishes in the 2018-19 season including Brown finishing tied for third at the Piedmont College Women's Spring Invitational.
Playing her four years for Methodist University while studying in the institution's Professional Golf Management program, Martin put together one of the most decorated careers in the program's history as one of four Monarchs to have taken back-to-back individual national championship titles (2008, 2009).
Martin was a part of the most dominant run in Division III women's golf team championship history as the four team titles she helped the Monarchs to were during 15 straight National Championships for MU (1999-2012). From 1986 to 2012, Methodist won all but two of the national championships handed out to teams missing out only in 1990 and 1997.
In four years with the Monarchs, Martin competed in 39 events showing improvement at the highest level dropping her stroke average from 79.18 in her debut season to 77.9 in her final season. For her efforts, Martin was named an All-American in all four years with two 1st team honors, a 2nd team nod, and an Honorable Mention.
With her collegiate status intact as one of the premier women's golfers in Division III, Martin turned pro following her graduation from Methodist spending her time on the Symetra Tour and the National Women's Golf Association Tour (formerly the Suncoast Series) from 2010 to 2014.
Martin boasts instructional experience up the East Coast and into the Midwest with time as a golf shop assistant at Berkeley Hills Country Club and the Country Club of Roswell in Georgia. During her time in the Professional Golf Management program at Methodist working with clubs across the coast, Martin coordinated more than 20 junior golf tournaments while also conducting multiple junior clinics as well.
A native of Norcross, Georgia, Martin earned her undergraduate degree in 2010 from Methodist in Business Administration with a concentration in Professional Golf Management.
Martin was named to the 2020 Methodist Monarchs Hall of Fame class adding yet another accolade to her decorated career.
