MURFREESBORO, Tenn.—The Piedmont women's tennis team battled but lost in tight competition to the Asbury Eagles in the CCS final round.

It was a back-and-forth battle all afternoon, but a win in doubles and a strong clinch at No. 4 for the Eagles led them to victory.

The Lions started off strong with a doubles win at No. 3, where Sarah Row and Brooklyn Bolch took the win with a 6-1 score.

Piedmont was unable to pick up wins in the other doubles matches at No. 1 and No. 2, giving Asbury the 1-0 lead going into singles play.

Asbury leapt out to a strong start in singles with a win at No. 2. Piedmont, however, answered back with a win in two 6-0 sets at No. 5 by Olivia Carpenter.

With Asbury still leading 2-1, Halee Harper secured another win for the Lions at No. 6, tying the match.

The Eagles did not stay dormant and retook the lead with a big win at No. 1.

Caroline Morrison brought the Lions back to a tie with a three-set victory at No. 3, setting up the defining set on court four.

Hattie Sloyan looked to deliver a Lions victory, but it would be against strong competition in Malory Watkins for Asbury.

Watkins picked up the first set 6-1, but Sloyan battled back in set two 6-3, forcing a third and final outing.

Watkins and Asbury came away with the win in the final set, giving the CCS crown to Asbury.

Piedmont battled well and pushed the eventual champion to the brink but could not come out with the victory.

The Lions conclude another impressive season in the CCS with a season that saw many highs and many strong performances.
