Softball Sweeps Wesleyan in Regular Season Finale

MACON, Ga. - Piedmont softball concluded the regular season with a doubleheader sweep over the Wesleyan Wolves. 

Game 1: Piedmont 12, Welseyan 4

It was all Piedmont in the contest from the first inning onward. Maddi Spieks came around to score the game's first run. Anslee Sauncheegraw launched her 10th home run of the season, bringing home two and giving the Lions a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the first. 

Freshman Maile Dunn took to the circle for Piedmont and shut down the Wolves lineup.

Piedmont scored three once again in the second and tacked on a run in the fourth before putting the game away in the fifth with another three-run inning, giving them a 10-run lead going into the bottom of the fifth.

Facing a run-rule defeat, the Wolves fought back and staved off an early ending with a four-run inning.

Piedmont answered and put the game away in the top of the sixth with two more runs. 

Game 2: Piedmont 7, Wesleyan 0 

Piedmont started game two similarly to game one with a quick scoring first inning, giving Jalyn McGee a two-run lead in the bottom of the inning.

The Lions scored at least one run in the next three innings while McGee dazzled the Wolves, allowing just one hit across seven innings of work while collecting seven strikeouts.

Piedmont scored its seventh run in the top of the seventh, and McGee set down the lineup in order to record the win. 

Up next, the Lions look to the upcoming CCS tournament.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Saunchegraw was walked four times in game two while recording her 10th home run of the season in game one.
- Valerie Bailey and Addy Perkins both brought home two RBI in game two.
- McGee allowed just one hit in her outing, striking out seven in the winning effort.
