PINEHURST, N.C. - Erin Donovan's 1-over 72 led Piedmont women's golf in its opening round of the spring season at the Centre College Classic Saturday afternoon.

As a team, the Lions are middle of the pack, finding themselves in sixth place out of 12 teams competing. Piedmont fired a round 36-over as a team (320) and are right on the heels of USA South foes Methodist and Huntingdon.

Going into Sunday's final round, the Lions trail the Monarchs by five and the Hawks by 10.

Donovan showed resiliency on Saturday, roaring back to a strong finish after a slow start. The senior standout from Southaven, Mississippi played the final 10 holes in 3-under par and bogey free, including two birdies on her last three holes.

She sits in a tie for fourth and just three shots off the individual lead with 18 holes to play.

The rest of the Lions delivered solid performances as well, counting four scores in the 80's. Keegan Goins also finished with a birdie at the last to card a 9-over 80.

Freshmen Lila Polakowski (82) and Addison Maney (86) produced the final two counting scores as Maney carded a birdie at the par-5 11th.

Up next, the Lions will tee off with Aubree Hill starting at 9:36 a.m. and Donovan closing things out with a 10:08 a.m. tee time in the final round.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Donovan is in contention heading into the final round once again, thanks to a strong finish.
