MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Piedmont women's basketball was unable to contain a hot-shooting Maryville on Friday afternoon, stumbling to an 89-63 road loss to the Scots.
Maryville used a dynamic offensive attack, scoring 20 or more points in each quarter to run away from the Lions and take the victory.
After the contest, both the Lions and Scots sit at 3-3 in the CCS standings.
Three Lions scored in double figures Friday, led by 12 each from
Brooklyn Begley and
Ava Hunter, with both coming off the bench to lead the way. Freshman
Kylie Watkins was the lone starter to reach double digits in scoring, adding 10 points.
While the Lions committed just 17 turnovers and made four three-pointers, Maryville shot over 50% from the field and connected on 13-of-22 from long range.
The Scots were led offensively by Emily Wilson, who scored a game-high 23 points while knocking down five three-pointers.
Piedmont led 4-2 in the early going. However, Maryville immediately answered with a 15-2 run that saw them take a 17-6 lead early in the quarter. From there, the Scots kept the Lions at arm's length the rest of the way, extending the lead throughout.
Up next, Piedmont is back in action tomorrow, taking on Covenant on Lookout Mountain at 2 p.m.
