JACKSON, Miss. - Piedmont women's soccer bounced back in a big way on Sunday afternoon with a dominating 4-0 win at Millsaps in Jackson, Mississippi.

The Lions scored once in the first half and three more times in the second to run away with the victory.

From the opening minutes of the game, however, the Lions were all over the Majors, controlling possession and the shot count before breaking the game open late.

Sophomore Sydney Spitzer delivered her first goal of the season and second of her career, scoring off an assist from fellow sophomore Alison Witkiewicz in the 34th minute.

The score remained 1-0 at halftime, although the Lions had a 13-2 advantage in total shots at the break.

Coming out of halftime, Piedmont added some cushion to its lead, as Addie Cissell found the back of the net for the first time in her career, with Molly Fitzpatrick tallying the assist.

Then, the Lions poured it on late, with senior Peyton Gates continuing her outstanding campaign with a 79th minute goal before a Millsaps own goal concluded the scoring with Piedmont ahead 4-0.

Up next, the Lions will play game two of their Sunday doubleheader in Mississippi with kickoff scheduled for 8:30 p.m. (ET) tonight.

TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont turned a slim 1-0 lead into a second half rout with three goals in the final 45 minutes.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Gates has good memories from playing at Millsaps, scoring in Sunday's contest after assisting on the game-winner in 2023 in a 1-0 Piedmont victory.
- Goalkeeper Kendyl Lloyd played all 90 minutes in goal, making one save in the shutout win and earning her first career victory as a Lion.
