Women's Tennis Falls in CCS Tournament Final to Asbury

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Asbury 4, Piedmont 0
Records: Asbury, 13-4; Piedmont, 21-3

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Piedmont women's tennis saw its bid for a CCS three-peat stifled by a tough Asbury team in a 4-0 loss in the final on Saturday afternoon in Chattanooga.

The Eagles were able to take a hard-fought doubles point and never looked back, winning three singles matches in straight sets to earn the clinch.

Dannie Evans and Bri Laidman began doubles on a high note for Piedmont, claiming a 6-4 win at No. 2. However, the Eagles rebounded with a 6-3 win at No. 3 followed by a grueling 7-5 win at No. 1 to take a 1-0 lead heading into singles.

Singles action favored Asbury as well, with the Eagles taking the first set in five of the six matches. Piedmont was able to battle back at No. 4 as Jordan Ballard took the second set.

But it wasn't enough, as the Eagles won in quick succession at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 to clinch the win.

This marks Piedmont's first loss to a conference opponent in any setting since the 2021 season.

Piedmont's 21-3 record and .875 winning percentage marks the best in program history.
