MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Piedmont softball ended the regular season dropping a pair of contests at Maryville by two runs each. The Scots took game one by a score of 6-4 and game two by a 5-3 decision.
Game 1: Maryville 6, Piedmont 4
It was a quiet game to start the doubleheader as Piedmont did not record a hit until the fourth inning and the scoring started one frame later. A
Jordyn Green triple started the fifth which saw Piedmont score three runs on five hits and leave two stranded.
Both team's bats got hot as the Scots answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning but the Lions held a 3-2 lead.
In the sixth, the Scots took the lead 4-3 and forced the Lions to the bullpen as starter
Megan Steinmeyer was replaced by
Summer McCranie. Maryville added a total of four runs on six hits to lead 6-3 after six.
Piedmont picked up one in the top of the seventh but it was not enough falling 6-4.
Game 2: Maryvile 5, Piedmont 3
Piedmont was once again first on the board but much quicker in game two plating a run in the first. A
Mandi Peretti double set her up to score on a single to right by
Megan Steinmeyer.
Maryville was kept silent until the third inning when a leadoff walk proved costly with a 2-RBI home run to the third batter of the inning. Maryville's 2-1 lead was short-lived as Piedmont tied the contest in the top of the fourth with three singles.
The Scots were quick to answer back with another 2-spot in the bottom half of the inning though to take a 4-2 lead and added another insurance run in the fifth.
Piedmont scored one in the seventh leading off the inning with back-to-back singles but was unable to complete the comeback.
Up next, the Lions will await the tournament seed for the CCS Championship tournament.
TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont surrendered a four-spot in the sixth in game one and was unable to keep pace with the Scots in game two.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:

Megan Steinmeyer was impressive at the plate going 6-for-8 over the doubleheader.
