While the Lions were held off the scoreboard for the first three minutes of game action, they took a 7-6 lead with 5:08 to play in the opening quarter and never looked back, leading the rest of the way.

The first double digit lead for Piedmont came with 7:31 remaining in the second quarter and a furious run followed, with a 41-22 advantage with 1:20 remaining in the first half. However, the Lions were not finished with the second quarter run, scoring five points in the final 38 seconds of the first half to take a 49-27 lead to the break.
